Original Source Aust Boardriders Battle – Yamba

After a successful weekend at Narrabeen, the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle ventured north to Yamba for the NSW North state round. As you can imagine there was plenty of good surfing on offer from people like WCT surfer Shaun Cansdell, who pulled on the rashie for Coffs Harbour Boardriders.

11 NSW boardriders clubs went toe-to-toe today as part of the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle, which saw Le-Ba Boardriders (Lennox/Ballina) reign supreme in punchy one-to-two foot waves at Pippi Beach, Yamba.

In a battle that went all the way down to the wire, Le-Ba, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay all found themselves within striking distance of victory until the dying minutes of the final heat of the day. However, due to Le-Ba and Byron Bay Boardriders getting the better of the exchange, both teams were able to squeak ahead of Coffs by less than 200 points.

Thanks to some technically sound surfing from former Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Championship Tour (WCT) surfers Danny Wills (Byron Bay) and Shaun Cansdell (Coffs Harbour), both respective teams were able to post some solid scorelines, which sent a warning shot to all other competitors.

The Milwaukee Heavy Duty Hack award was presented to Shaun Cansdell from Coffs Harbour Boardriders for posting the only perfect ten-point of the event.

The Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle is the country’s biggest grassroots, boardriders event series with $120,000 in prize money. It will involve more than 100 of Australia’s best boardriders clubs in eight State qualifying rounds starting in October and culminate in a two-day, national final for 20 clubs on the Australia Day Long Weekend on 24-25 January, 2015 at Cronulla in Sydney.

Each club team will include one junior (Under 18) surfer, four Open age surfers, and one over 35 surfer. Each team must include one female surfer. An exciting event format will see teams battle it out in a Women’s division, five-person Teams’ division and a Skins competition.
