Breakwall Options – all options are listed in this document.

Surf Reef Coffs Harbour invites all surfers and other interested parties to email your comments or feedback on the proposed options to prevent waves breaking over the northwall.

Below is what Surf Reef Coffs Harbour believe are pertinent issues.

CHBC invites you to add your thoughts with your submission.

By the end of November your submissions should be emailed to: coastalharbours@lands.nsw.gov.au

The Surf Reef Coffs harbour supports Option 4 – Submerged artificial reef in front of the existing breakwater, for the following reasons:

• Option 4 will be the most effective method to eliminate the waves overtopping the breakwall

• Option 4 will provide the added benefit of a recreation facility for future generations, with no ongoing maintenance cost

• It will have no adverse impact on the marine park environment and existing nearby reefs

• It will enhance of the fish habitat environment and provide a safe recreational diving area

• It provides safe public access to Muttonbird Island visitors and other harbour users, under all weather conditions, and without loss of visual amenity.

Option 4 broadens the appeal of the harbour for locals and tourists and compliments the natural attributes of the harbour precent

• It will provide a significant economic boost to local tourism and existing commercial operations around the harbour.

Surfing is one of the most popular recreational activities in our coastal regions. Surfing is an iconic part of the Australian culture yet receives virtually no public expenditure on facilities. This is an opportunity to solve a problem related to the harbour and spread the benefit wider across the community.
